October 2009 Good News
THIS AND THAT
After three years as Choir director, Ken Cunningham will be leaving the position. He does so because of a very full schedule that includes a new job, increasing responsibility with his parents, a business to run and plans to return to school for his master’s degree. He has done a wonderful job with the choir — he has gotten more out of them than they thought they had in themselves. He brought to the choir and the church a lightheartedness and joy in the Lord that was evident in all that he did. We will miss Ken.
We are very fortunate that Rev. Betty Houghton has agreed to come back on an interim basis to pick up where Ken has left off. She did a great job as Music Minister in the past and we are confident that she will bring us “Joyfully Singing” into the holiday season. Betty will begin on October 1st.
At the request of the Board of Deacons, the Program/ Ministry Team will be looking at the job description and requirements of the position and make recommendations to the board on the future of the position. Your ideas and comments are encouraged and welcome.
On a personal note — family obligations have necessitated some changes in my schedule and I will not be in the office on the same schedule as in the past . But you should know that the church phone rolls over” to my cell phone, so you can always get in touch with me. Please do not feel that your issue or question is not important to me. I will take calls whenever it is possible (and AT&T provides a signal) and will return calls when I am out of range or unable to answer. My phone also allows me to check my e-mails on a regular basis so I will always be “in touch” — even when I am not in the office. Thank you for your understanding.
I don’t know what tomorrow holds,
but I know who holds tomorrow.
LET’S CELEBRATE!!!

“POT” & “PIE”
Saturday, October 24th, 6:00 p.m.
Actually, it is a social where we will be asking everyone to prepare a “Crock-Pot” item — soup, appetizer, main dish or dessert. For those who are bakers, we will also be having a pie contest, sort of like the old-time county fair. Bake your favorite pie and a guest judge will be awarding the “blue ribbon” for the best pie.
Sign up at the church or call the office to be included in the fun & fellowship
TRIED AND TRUE RECIPES
Thank you for all the cookbook orders we have received so far. Sales are going very well, but we need your help selling the remaining books. We are finding that they are easy to sell – show them to friends, family, neighbors or co-workers, or just talk about some of the wonderful recipes, and they nearly sell themselves. For only $10, they make a wonderful gift.
Have you ordered books for yourself and loved ones? We don’t want anyone to miss out. If you want to place an order, give your payment to Linda DeMola, Jane Coatney or Mary Smith, or mail it to the church. If you order more than 5 copies, we will insert a page that you can personalize in each one.
If you are ordering more than 4 copies to be sent to one address, please contact Mary or Linda for shipping costs.
RCS WISH LISTS
Each month we will publish a current Wish List for the RCS Programs. Please bring items as you obtain them and place them in the blue bucket in the church foyer or the shopping basket in the Ministries building on any Sunday. On the fourth Sunday of each month, the RCS Box will be out after church to receive donations that go direct to RCS in addition to the $100 per month pledge the church pays. Change collected from the baby food jars goes directly to the Food Bank for baby food purchases.
October Wish List:

Food Bank: Rice & Beans, Canned Meat (Tuna, Chicken, Ham, etc.)- standard size.
