July 2009 Good News!
Dear Friends;
It hardly seems possible, but July will mark 20 years in Palm Harbor for Emmanuel Community Church. The church had its early start in Clearwater at Oak Bluffs (now The Oaks) and moved to the Masonic Hall in Dunedin when the property on the corner of Curlew and C.R. 1 was purchased. Ground breaking was in October of 1988 and we moved into the building in July of 1989.
In the 20 years that have followed we have made new friends, said goodbye to old ones. We have helped feed the poor, house the homeless, care for the sick, supported countless community organizations and all the while, attempted to bear witness to the love of God and the saving grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
It is impossible to know how many people have crossed our threshold in these 20 years — Eckerd College students, visitors to a worship service, concert attendees, cub scouts, homeowner association meetings, bargain hunters to a yard sale, members of 12-step groups that are held at the church. To all of these folks we have tried to say; “We are Emmanuel Community Church, and we want you to feel welcome here and want you to know that we care about this community!”
To mark this anniversary, we are planning a weekend celebration for July 18 and 19 & 20. There will be a potluck supper on Saturday the 18th at which time we will share memories of our time together. On Sunday morning, Dr. Keith Russell will be our guest preacher. The worship will be a time to look back at where we have come from as well as looking forward to where God is leading us. We will conclude with a barbecue on Monday, 5 p.m. at the home of Chuck and Linda DeMola. This will be a time to wind-down and continue our fellowship.
Be sure to mark your calendars and save the dates. Help us celebrate! 20 years and still going strong!

“GOT” or NEED”?
What is a “got” ad? It is an item that you no longer have any need of that you ware willing to freely give to a fellow church member. And what about a “need” ad? Well, it is an item or service that you need that one of us here at Emmanuel might be able to help you with. So, if you have an ad, either “got” or “need” — pass it along to the pastor. It will be included in future bulletins and newsletters as space permits.

YOUR SPARE “CHANGE”
… Can Change the Way We See Things!
The blue piggy banks (courtesy of the Christian Community Credit Union) are for you to use as we raise the funds necessary to have a video system installed in the sanctuary. The system will allow us to view the promotional materials sent to us from ABC-USA, missionary communications, movies and slide shows, view photos and a host of other uses.
Donations are coming in slowly and as soon as we have a couple of estimates on cost, we will give a more detailed report. In the meantime, thanks to Rosalie Longenecker for the Easter slide show she produced.
WE NEED
We have been offered one bookcase as well as an offer to build in some additional shelf space for the storing of books and DVDs for the Book & Movie Swap table. You can start collecting books and such now, but please hold on to them a bit longer as we finalize the storage issue. We could also use a cart or some kind of display on wheels. Call the church if you have an ideas on this topic.

To everyone at Emmanuel;
A double, double thank you for every prayer, every card, all the flowers, and the thoughts that have gone up for Mom. Day by day she is improving and though it’s going to be a long recovery physically, her attitude is great, and she is as sharp as ever. Thank you for her birthday card, get wells cards and words of encouragement. We will have her back at Emmanuel Community as soon as we can. Jo Ellen, Don, Phil and Gene

Tried and True Recipes
As you know, we have been busy collecting, organizing, typing and verifying the 350 recipes collected for=2 0our new cookbook, Tried and True Recipes. Everything has now been sent off to the printer, and the books should arrive around Labor Day – just in time for holiday gift-giving. We are accepting pre-paid orders now – just fill out the coupon below and give it, along with your payment, to Linda DeMola or Mary Smith, or mail it to the church. WEB SITE
You really need to go to the church web site:
It has a new look and new content. Misplace your newsletter? It will be there. So will a schedule of events and other information. It is also someplace you can direct individuals who are interested in the church and our ministry.
It is still under construction and comments, ideas and help with additional content will be appreciated.
The redesign of the site as well as the hosting and the maintenance has been done by Reboot Computer Services and Web Design. This company has provided these services free of charge to the church. Andrew Norcross is a partner in the company. Thanks Andrew!
